How to Get a Medical Marijuana Card in Potomac Maryland

Maryland Medical Marijuana Certification Process

Register with the State For Your MMCC Card

To get started, you must first register with the Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission (MMCC). The MMCC is responsible for verifying Maryland state residency and issuing medical cannabis IDs.

What you’ll need to register:

  • Registration fee ($25 payable by card only)
  • Valid email address
  • Photo ID
  • If your address has recently changed, you will also need to provide two proofs of address.

Once your registration has been processed, the MMCC will send an approval email. This email will also contain an MMCC identification number, which will be important in the next step.

Consult with a Certifying Health Provider that can get you certified for your MMCC Card.

The second step is to consult with a certifying health provider. This is our specialty at Mt Washington Cannabis Docs! A medical cannabis consultation is much like a doctors visit. Our licensed certified nurse practitioners consult with and certify patients.

What you’ll need to get certified:

  • Certification fee (see our pricing & schedule an appointment)
    Photo ID
    Medical documentation (optional but preferred)
Your MMCC identification number issued by the MMCC

Once you have been certified, the MMCC will mail your medical cannabis ID card. In the meantime, you may visit a dispensary with your MMCC Certification or a temporary ID card (printable from your MMCC patient portal).

Visit A Dispensary

The final step is to visit a dispensary. Once you have obtained both your registration and certification, you can now shop at local dispensaries.

It is important to note that medical cannabis treatment is a personalized journey. Medical cannabis patients have the freedom to tailor their medicines in a unique way. We recommend brushing up on some cannabis basics before your first visit to a dispensary.

Here’s what you’ll need on your first visit to a dispensary:

  • Photo ID
  • MMCC ID card or MMCC Certification

Maryland Medical Card Requirements

Residency Requirements

You must be a Maryland resident. A photo ID with your current address will suffice for proof.

Age Requirements

There is a minimum age requirement of 18 at the time of registration. If you are under 18, you will also need a guardian or parental figure as your caregiver.

Qualifying Conditions

Some of the more common medical conditions that Maryland patients have been qualifying for include symptoms like anxiety, depression, chronic pain, PTSD, and cancer. However, any condition that a doctor determines can be successfully treated by medical marijuana can qualify.

Medical Documentation

Documentation is not required. However, if you have proof of a chronic medical condition such as prior medical records then we encourage you to provide them to your doctor to enable them to prescribe more accurate amounts and concentrations.

Evaluation

A doctor licensed by the MMCC will evaluate your health and condition, previous medical records and other factors to get you approved quickly. Once approved you can be certified immediately or if you have not registered with the MMCC we can walk you through the process and help you get registered.

About Potomac, MD

Potomac (listen ) is a census-designated place (CDP) in Montgomery County, Maryland, United States, named after the nearby Potomac River. Potomac is the seventh most educated small town in America, based on percentage of residents with postsecondary degrees. Bloomberg Businessweek labeled Potomac as the twenty-ninth-richest zip code in the United States in 2011, stating that it had the largest population of any U.S. town with a median income of more than $240,000. In 2012, The Higley Elite 100 published a list of highest-income neighborhoods by mean household income, which included four neighborhoods in Potomac; one of these neighborhoods, "Carderock-The Palisades" was ranked the highest-income neighborhood in the United States, followed by "Beverly Hills-North of Sunset" in Beverly Hills, California and "Swinks Mill-Dominion Reserve" of McLean, Virginia. More recently, two Potomac neighborhoods were ranked among the ten wealthiest neighborhoods in the country by CNBC in 2014. In 2018, data from the American Community Survey revealed that Potomac was the sixth-wealthiest city in the United States. Many Potomac residents work in nearby Washington, D.C. and Northern Virginia. == History == The land that is now Potomac Village was first settled by Edward Offutt in 1714 after he was granted a 600-acre (2.4 km2) land grant "Clewerwell" by Lord Baltimore. His grant of land was by the Tehogee Indian Trail, an Indian trade route built by the Canaze Indian nation in 1716. Throughout the 18th century, what became known as Offutts Crossroads was a small, rural community which served planters and travelers.
